WSPY News: Local lawmakers react to President Trump's Supreme Court nominee

Local lawmakers from the U.S. House of Representatives are reacting to President Trump’s pick for the Supreme Court.

On Monday night, President Trump nominated Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court.

At a White House ceremony, Trump described Kavanaugh, a federal appeals court judge and former aide to President George W. Bush, as, "one of the finest and sharpest legal minds of our time."

She said, "We need a strong Congress to represent the voice of the people—72% of whom support Roe v. Wade—against biased judges who might gut our reproductive rights."

Kavanaugh will now meet privately with lawmakers from both sides of the aisle and will sit for hearings with the Senate Judiciary Committee, which has 11 Republicans and 10 Democrats.

The final vote by the Senate usually takes place a week or two after the hearings are completed.
