WREX: Congressional Reps. Kinzinger, Bustos visit Rockford

Two local lawmakers are in Rockford Wednesday to meet with the public and learn more about what's going on in the Forest City.

Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R) 16th District spent the morning at Eisenhower Middle School with the Google Computer Science First Roadshow. The goal is to get kids interested in computer science at a young age and show them a potential career path.

"By the year 2020, there will be a million more jobs in computer science than kids studying it today, so it's critically important that we get more kids focused on computer science," Google Representative, Bob Biderman said.

It focuses on teaching students technical coding skills and problem solving skills, something students can carry on even if they don't go into computer science.

"When you see young people like this now seeing they maybe have a career they can strive to, it's exciting," Kinzinger said.
