WIFR: Farmers meet with Rep. Kinzinger to express concerns

After months of devastating floods, farmers are now facing another battle, the trade war with China.

"They are on the front lines of this trade war," says Congressperson Adam Kinzinger.

Kinzinger met with the Winnebago-Boone County Farm Bureau on Tuesday.

"The farm economy is hurting and the farm economy has less and less representation," says Kinzinger.

Farmers took the opportunity to voice their concerns to representative Kinzinger.

"When he flies over this area and he sees a lot of the fields aren't planted., that there is a major economic cost to that. There are a lot of farmers that are going to be struggling this fall to pay their bills," says Adam Nielsen with the Illinois Farm Bureau.

Farmers are also pushing for the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement. The Bureau is hopeful that with the help of congress, the farm economy will prosper once again.

"The hope is that we can open some new markets and get back some of what we lost," says Nielsen.
