Washington Examiner: GOP lawmaker: 'There has never been an administration that's more hawkish on Russia' than Trump
Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill., thinks the Trump administration has been exceptionally strong in dealing with Russia.
Kinzinger, an Air Force veteran who serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, acknowledged he “wish[es] President Trump would speak out against Vladimir Putin more” and is “perplexed as to why he doesn’t.”
“But with that out of the way,” Kinzinger continued, “there has never been, and I would say even including Ronald Reagan, there has never been an administration that’s more hawkish on Russia than President Trump.”
Speaking this week in an interview on "Plaidcast," the podcast of Rep. Sean Duffy, R-Wis., a copy of which was obtained first by the Washington Examiner, Kinzinger pointed to several specific actions taken by the administration to substantiate his case. “We have all the sanctions in place — by the way, you’ll always hear the Left say, ‘Yeah, but they don’t have the sanctions that Congress passed.’ Yes, those have been implemented, they just forget it," he explained.
“You know, we killed 200 Russian mercenaries recently,” Kinzinger added, listing other moves made by the administration such as the sending of “lethal weapons to Ukraine” and “bombing Syria twice despite Russia’s objections.”
Pivoting back to Trump’s relationship with Putin, Kinzinger suggested the president “kind of likes his persona, but he doesn’t like his politics.”
Duffy and Kinzinger both agreed Trump’s “actions against” the Russian president have been "tough.”
