My State Line: New Tax Law Brings Big Bonuses for Chrysler Workers

Fiat/Chrysler is the latest company to offer bonuses to employees in the wake of the passage of President Trump's and Republicans' tax cut law, and they're big ones.  Approximately 60,000 employees will receive a $2000 bonus in the 2nd quarter of 2018, including employees at the Belvidere Assembly plant according to a FCA spokesperson.

The new law, which cuts the corporate tax rate to 21%, eliminates loopholes, and doubles the standard deduction for individuals and families, was supported by Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL 16) but opposed by Rep. Cheri Bustos (D-IL 17), and Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL)

Salvation Army: How One Illinois Congressman is Fighting Human Trafficking

In October, I hosted a community forum on human trafficking with local leaders who deal with the issue from the front lines. We were fortunate to have representatives from The Salvation Army, Department of Homeland Security, Demand Abolition, Rockford Diocese & Catholic Charities, Rockford Police Department, Cook County Sheriff’s Office, and Rockford Rescue Mission; and we were joined by nearly 200 concerned citizens. The forum focused on the issues we face in the Rockford area, but also how the problem is being handled and reported on a national scale. One of my big takeaways was community awareness – people seemed shocked to know the number of cases, the wide range of victims, and the impact this issue has on our community.
