Countless American men and women have put their lives on the line, many making the ultimate sacrifice, so we may continue to enjoy the freedom and liberty we hold so dear. To honor their sacrifice, we have a responsibility to carry on the torch of liberty and leave our kids and grandkids a nation that is strong, secure, and has the same opportunities we enjoy today.
As an Air Force veteran and National Guardsman, I know not only the power of our military, but also how strong it must be to confront terrorism, nuclear proliferation, and emerging threats. I have voted to strengthen our national security by increasing our defense budget to fix the damage caused by sequestration and voted to hold adversaries such as North Korea, Iran, Russia, and other accountable through sanctions.
Through my role on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, I am able to learn firsthand about the challenges and opportunities we face in foreign relations and diplomacy. I have authored legislation to prevent the further destabilization of Iraq by Iran and to increase the energy security of our allies in Europe.
I strongly believe America must continue to provide leadership in an ever-volatile world by showing our allies and enemies alike that America stands by its values. Our nation, and our military, provides hopes to millions around the globe that desire freedom and peace. When the United States relinquishes its leadership position in the world, it opens the door for countries like China and Russia to fill the void, something I will continue to fight to prevent in Congress.
