La Salle News Tribune: Officer who thwarted school shooting is Kinzinger guest
U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.), whose district includes La Salle, Bureau and Putnam counties, will take Officer Mark Dallas, the School Resource Officer at Dixon High School and of the Dixon Police Department, as his guest for the 2019 State of the Union Address on Tuesday.
Officer Dallas thwarted a school shooting from happening at Dixon High School on May 16. Serving as the School Resource Officer on duty, Officer Dallas’ quick, selfless actions to disarm the attacker kept the students and faculty safe from an armed student. In October 2018, Officer Dallas was named the 2018 ‘Officer of the Year’ by International Association of Chiefs of Police, and was recognized by President Trump for his heroism.
“Officer Mark Dallas embodies the very best of who we are as a nation. We are a better, safer community for his dedication to serve and protect. His quick, fearless actions saved countless lives, and prevented a real tragedy from occurring. I’m grateful for his service, for the service of all our School Resource Officers, and for all those who wear the badge with honor in IL-16 and across the country," Kinzinger said.
